The Shameless Behavior Contest: Two Covers, You Choose

Hi, folks. It’s Angela. How are you? I need your help. You’ll see below two potential covers for Go Deeper Press’ upcoming anthology, Shameless Behavior. I want to know which one you think is best, the one that simply must be the final cover, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. What you can do is leave a comment right here on our blog.

Here’s the best part yet: The Commenter (that’s you, in respectful caps) that (1) chooses the cover he or she thinks is a go and (2) provides the best critical feedback (I’ll take both positive or negative, and if it’s negative, I’m thinking constructively negative, since I’m a sensitive soul, a Cancer and all) gets a free e-book of his or her choice from Go Deeper Press and a copy of Shameless Behavior once it’s available. Oh, and of course the book will have the cover you’ve chosen, without the Shutterstock watermark, and you can tell all your friends and family, “I did that.”

We’ll pick our best critical Commenter on Monday, May 6, so be sure to get your critical comment in no later than Sunday, May 5, at midnight.

Lana and I, we can’t thank you enough, really, so let me do it again: Thank you, thank you to YOU, awesome member of our extended GDP family. Now get criticizin’!

Of those two covers, as they are, I prefer No. 2 for various reasons. I’m not a big fan of text on its side, especially for a title, and double especially for a script font. And while the font on the sideways text is quite nice, the kerning upsets me (for I, too, am a sensitive soul!). Mainly in the “ess” of Shameless, though I realise that’s the work of moments to tweak should you wish to do so.
I think the typography is appreciably better on No. 2, and the image has far greater clarity. It’s stronger as a thumbnail, though the title is lost at those smaller sizes. (And a little suggestion…though the “edited by LANA FOX” is centred, I wonder if it might work to put that text entirely in the white space between those delicious thighs?)

  2. annemarie says:

I agree — #2 is eye-catching, but I’d probably make the circle with the title just a bit bigger over her ass.. The title of the book kind of gets lost in her ass lol and the design will pop more in a sea of covers on retail sites.

  3. Lucy Malone says:

#2! I would like this one even better if the side of her ass on the left weren’t cut off (makes it kind of look less curvy as is), but the shot it fantastic.

    • angela says:

Thanks, Lucy! The positioning was a tricky thing, you see, since our lady in the photo was exhibiting quite a bit of labia. Now, we like labia, but rumor has it Amazon doesn’t. So, I had to cover her up (sigh) and make the circle big enough to fit the text and…well, that’s my excuse for cutting off the amazing shape of her ass.

  4. I think on balance I prefer cover 1 for a couple of reasons – I think the ass is a better shape and on cover 2 the smack mark slightly looks like the colour’s gone funny in the printing! Also the black circle looks like one of those ‘buy one, get one half price’ stickers…

But having said that, they’re both mouthwatering!

  5. Brandy Fox says:

I much prefer #1 for a few reasons: 1) The dark space between her thighs feels mysterious and intimate, and I have the urge to slide my hand in there to see what treasures I might find; 2) Her hand feeling her own ass is a shameless and self-loving gesture, and that’s what this collection is all about; 3) I agree that the spot on #2’s ass looks like a “Half Off Today!” sticker that some prudish bookseller strategically slapped over that luscious ass to make her stop wanting to duck between the aisles and diddle herself; and finally, 4) I have a thing for garter belts and fishnet stockings. I do agree that the sideways and cursive title is difficult to read, though. Any way to change that? Thanks for giving us the chance to choose the cover!

Thank you so much, Brandy, for your awesome and insightful feedback. So appreciated!

Brandy, thanks again! You’re our winner! We’ve left another comment further down with a little more detail, but do send us your email address (we’re editors (at) and we’ll get your prizes to you. Thanks for being so awesome! And yes, we’ve decided on cover 1. 😉

Folks, you are *amazing*! Thank you so much for your insights and responses. Also, I have a question. Seeing as Shameless Behavior won’t be a print book, it will only be available in online stores and in our own web store. The title will therefore be clearly legible on the screen, right by the image, during any searches. So if we had the vertical script (on cover1 with the woman in dress and stockings) would the fact thatit is harder to read on the cover bother you during such a search? Here’s an example of what I mean:

Thanks again, everyone! Your help is golden.

  7. Brandy Fox says:

At that size, I think it looks just fine!

  8. Lana Fox says:

Aha! Thanks, Brandy! Great to know.

  9. My favourite is #1 because it is… well, just better photo. It has some inherent mystery in it. I’d love to read a story about it. It has the “retro” feel. Perhaps something could be done with the script font? (I think if the title were written in Japanese, vertically, in the very same place where the script title is, it would be perfect.)

The photo #2 is poorly cropped. The black sticker on girl’s bottom gives a message: “Censored”. The fact that the original photo, I am told, has the girl’s labia exposed, only confirms that. On the other hand, if the original photo appeared on the cover, it would ruin the mystery. Lose-lose situation.

  10. Laila says:

I very much prefer #1. The hint of revealing herself in the picture fits the theme and the title font and placement is visually extremely pleasing and unexpected. I also think the picture itself looks attractive and interesting without going a little bit too far. I like the colours and the composition a lot. As for #2, yeah, the black spot doesn’t really attract enough attention to the title – the eye is drawn to her anatomy and, personally, I find that a bit much. I’m far from prude, but I want to be a willing and voluntary participant on seeing that much, not have it jump at me where I don’t expect it. Also the black dot looks a little bit like a censor which kind of seems to fly in the face of the theme ;). I am also not a fan on of the spank-marks — that’s a little confusing on an anthology that isn’t themed in that direction. 🙂

    I hope it helps!

  11. kellynz says:

I’m a fan of cover number one too – the fact that she is hiking up her skirt to show her ass rather than having it all out there as it is in number two gives it more of a erotic and less of a porn-y feel. Although the sideways writing makes it a little difficult to read the title, the font and size make the cover feel more sophisticated that than of cover two (which although I love the kookiness of the font, it seems more suited to a teen novel than an “adult” book).
Either way, it looks like a book worth checking out when it is published! 😉

  12. V.C. says:

Personally, I prefer cover no. 1. As some have already mentioned, I think it’s a more appealing photo that leaves some mystery while also having a retro, classy, sexy edge to it. Cover no. 2 is not bad, but the black dot is kinda distracting and does have that censored feel to it. Plus as somebody else has also noted her bottom looks like it’s been spanked, which might confuse people since this is not a spanking anthology. They are both great covers though, whichever ones you choose! 🙂

  13. Lana Fox says:

V.C. and Kelly, many thanks! So helpful!

  14. Lana Fox says:

We’re announcing the winner, finally! Thank you *all* so much! Every comment here has been extremely helpful. We have decided to give Brandy Fox the prize here — Brandy, your comments sparked a very important discussion — we really loved what you said about self-love. (Brandy, send us your email and we’ll get your prizes to you!) But honestly, it wasn’t an easy decision. You are all so insightful and we are thrilled that you are part of our GDP community. Warmest wishes, Lana & Angela

  15. Lana Fox says:

P.S. Cover one is our cover! A hard decision, but we’re there, and we’re happy. 🙂
